Episode 33 Brandon Riches

I’m always impressed at the talent in this year’s election for Ocean Springs city representatives. I’m amazed at how the city has attracted even more talented people who can connect so deeply to this town that they feel compelled to be involved in the future growth of the city. From a woman running for mayor who has roots back to Lebanon, to my guest today.

Brandon Riches is an immigration attorney living in Ward one—the ward he seeks to represent for the next four years. Brandon, a graduate from Ole Miss (his fault, not mine) spent his time growing up in Tennessee. His father sought to give Brandon blue-collar experience, growing up on a farm and tending to the Earth, the fields, and livestock. Perhaps this is where his energetic vigor for work comes from.

Brandon met an Ocean Springs native while in law school at the University of Mississippi, you should know the name. I went to high school with her. Marie Wicks, the former Miss Mississippi from 2012 sold Brandon on the idea of Ocean Springs. Her pitch worked. Brandon moved down to the area and hasn’t looked back sense.

Much of what Brandon seems passionate about seems to derive from his own experiences. His work on the farm likely helps him understand the honest labor of people vying for the simple opportunity to earn a living wage. This may be an influence for his work as an immigration attorney, and may also speak to his desire for a more inclusive Ocean Springs. His time tending to soil and working the land of his farm may speak to his desire for sustainable projects which respect the proclivity for devastation along our coastal lands.

Brandon is a wonderful guy. He’s got a different political affiliation than I do, but I cannot get the sense that matters. He’s a genuine, hard-working, down to Earth guy who wants to simply do what’s right for his ward and our city. The elections are better off with his presence.

Everyone, please welcome, Brandon Riches
