Episode 14 Oren Zweig
Once in a while you run into people who are unassuming. You get to chatting, and you realize you’re standing in front of someone with a wonderful story many people would benefit from hearing. Oren Zweig is that guy. Oren is a first generation Israeli-American. He’s got a heart of gold, and a mind of ambition. Whatever he wants to do, he does. It’s that simple for Oren. Oren has found success as a gold and jewelry dealer. He played on the World Series of Poker. He even is a successful restuarant owner. That’s a feat in itself.
What’s interesting about Oren’s perspective is he is focused on getting things right. Not correct. He wants to get things right. That’s a subjective moral standard which deserves more discussion and explanation. See, Oren isn’t concerned about mass profitability. He’s interested in running a business organically in the right direction so that employees and customers are pleased and enjoy the business he creates as an environment worthy of their time, first—money second.
He opened a successful bar in downtown Ocean Springs. Despite its successes, he decided to close it on a gut instinct. Many people sought to buy the business, but he refused. That business was his—in all the glory and in all that may or may not have been glorified. That speaks to ownership. Oren takes the time to get the little details right and his energy towards that pursuit is infectious and motivating.
Despite being a business man, Oren is a grounded and fun-loving individual with a personality of energy and omnipotent fraternity of fellows. He was recommended to me by Zak Ducote. We did an episode also, Check that out here. Oren and I had a wonderful time talking. Although it was a first time talking with Oren it felt like we were catching up after years of being separated from a long-lived friendship. You all are going to get the same feeling, I’m sure. Everyone please enjoy, and welcome, Oren Zweig!
