Episode 07 Patrick Mortenson
When I was younger, I used to play basketball all over town. That was my sport. I was pretty talented. I’d say I’m still pretty talented, albeit COVID has kept me from playing basketball in recent months. In my neighborhood where I grew up was a kid who was a couple years older than me, and he is naturally bigger. I could never beat him. He was the big brother of another kid in the neighborhood whom was one year my senior. This older, larger kid was a sort of big brother on the street. We had a wide array of characters in our neighborhood. It’s interesting to think back on those personalities we exhibited, in that very local community of a single street. It’s even more interesting to think about how those kids evolved into people.
My guest today is the older brother figure from my street. His name is Patrick Mortenson. Patrick and I have much in common although I had never been in his house. I had never met his parents, either. We joined the military after high school. He joined the Army while I joined the Air Force. He got out after a his obligation and gained an education from “THE” Ohio State. He’ll appreciate the way I wrote that. Now he works in the IT and career fields.
Together we share a brotherly bond through our military service. We also spoke about some vulnerabilities we had with alcohol. I’ll tell you, it was probably the first time I’ve ever admitted publicly that I was likely addicted to alcohol. It was comforting to know that he understood what I was describing.
This episode is a lot of catching up, and reaffirming a bond we shared as kids. Patrick is a wonderful person and fine spirit of a man. He likes some questionable sports teams, but I’ll let that go. Everyone please welcome, Patrick Mortenson!!
