Episode 11 Christine Walck

Childhood friends are so important to us. They are a reminder of a time if innocence and serve as validation for a life we sometimes leave in the past. A stroll down memory lane is always fun. When those same friends grow to become professionals, and productive members of society it gives one a greater sense of value for their lives too. When my childhood friends become successful—I’m blessed they all have—It’s validation for me that I got those people right. I picked the right people to surround myself with.

My guest today is one of those childhood friends. Christine Walck, formerly Christine Furey, is a wonderful women who is also an architect. She and I grew up down the road from each other and we’ve had various classes with each other since 4th grade. Christine has some stories to share about me, and she doesn’t hesitate to talk about some of those on the show. Christine is a vibrant women full of life. You meet her and realize she enjoys many things. A sense of life seems to be an organic trait; an essential motivation for one in the pursuit of a fulfilling life.

She chases her interests and passion with vigor and appears to find fulfillment married to the experience of community within those interests. An interest in craft beer yielded a community of like-interested people passionate about beer too.

As evidence for her passion for growing, life, and growing [insert any preposition here] life, Christine’s interest in design and architecture enables her to help people. As we all have ideas about how our living spaces should be, Christine’s job is to transcend those ideas into a design which is the literal manifestation of those ideas. This, all while maintaining and/or improving the utility of that space as well. It’s complicated, complex work.

Those with passion understand this last part. When someone is truly passionate about something, it consumes them. It becomes synonymous with who they are. Passion becomes welded to the genetic structure of one’s soul. Christine lives in home she can give life to. I admire this about her. I’ve always felt there is a primal satisfaction built into our psyche, with regard to imposing your will on material to make a structure, design, or element of your choosing. Christine’s first home was a 100 year old home in Alabama. The home is gorgeous. Christine gives life to homes. Therefore she gives life to a place which houses life. What’s more maternal and powerful than the giving of life? Her current home is a 1970’s home which she is actively remodeling now. Our recording was at her home as well. It was surprisingly calming to be recording an episode there. As the painter has the canvas, Christine has the home. Many see nothing; Christine sees unlimited potential.

Finally, Christine has a beautiful family. She’s married to a hilarious stud of a husband. I’ve never seen two bodies of energy so evenly commensurate and complimenting one another. Together they have two beautiful children. Her youngest joined us on the episode. It was entertaining and fitting. Christine is full of life and her home exudes as much.

Everyone please welcome, Christine Walck!
