Episode 10 Heath Kendrick

Today is probably the first episode I’ve been able to talk “shop”. The shop part of my show really just refers to people talking about their interests. We talk shop about work and we do so in a particular way. There is jargon there. There is also an energy coupled with the stories we tell within the shop talk. I want all of that.

My guest today is someone else I grew up with. Heath Kendrick was part of the gear head crowd. Although, his personality gave him access to everybody. When you meet Heath, be careful. A simply hello opens up a door to an enormous amount of positive energy, infused with a genuine interest in people.

Heath is a transmission technician in South Mississippi. We talk about his work. We share our knowledge of the transmission as well as a few other car stories. We also talk about his children. Heath has a son and a daughter. As a technician you’re often put in the position to solve problems. Heath chases enigmas to find some sort of sense or understanding. Children are also an enigma. I find it to be such an amazing quality of an individual—the desire to figure things out. Children are an enigma. You’re tasked to try to make sense of the world for them and make them successful in the infinite possibilities that exist in the world. This is so incredibly challenging. A child is a separate sentient being—one unique to the history of the world. Literally, there has never been an equal. Even siblings only share 23 chromosomes from each parent. Yet, those chromosomes lay out a different genetic code. Yet, for someone like Heath, I got the sense rearing children is an enjoyable experience. I don’t mean that as nuance. I feel like Heath’s interests and open-mindedness, coupled with a desire to solve problems, makes him uniquely suited to be a great parent.

Towards the end of the show, we discuss Heath’s latest interest—metal detecting. Let me tell you, I was on the edge of my seat. Granted, I’m easily influence by other people’s passions. This was actually deeper than I realized. Heath has to research the areas he wishes to metal detect. Areas once the setting for a battle during the civil war, may now be a neighborhood or a park. Metal detecting really is amazing! Heath’s telling of metal detecting involves the bomb squad and police! It’s a must listen!!!

Everyone enjoy the show and please welcome, Heath Kendrick.
