Episode 22 John Tisue

I’m blessed to have some amazing friends. When I was younger many of my friends were just morons like me who wanted to do young teenage boy stuff. We played pranks, worked on cars, damaged each other’s property…the normal things young men do.

In my adult years, I’m not as cavalier. I try to just engage people in a polite and friendly way. I spend a lot of time listening to people as well. Most of my friends I meet in my later years are people I’ve connected with through helping them through some particular issue or problem. Often times that help is simply allowing them the confirmation that they are being heard. Occasionally I make a connection with someone because, for some reason, they’ve found value in whatever advice I’ve given them.

John Tisue is one of those individuals. John is a very ambitious, but humble dude with a vibrant personality and intelligence that will only serve to enrich his life with friendships and opportunities—circumstances he will undoubtedly capitalize on. John appears stoic and soft spoken for a brief period before you meet him. Soon the color of his personality evokes a sense of positivity in yourself, you didn’t expect. He drags positivity out. He exorcises it and calls your own playful nature to the surface. He is a wonderful spirit to be around.

John and I met while stationed in South Georgia. For whatever reason he found refuge in my ideas about management and leadership. Mind you, these aren’t my own. Rather I think its better said that I was able to package others’ ideas into allegories and metaphors easy to digest for an individual so willing to better him/herself. I won’t take credit for anything he has accomplished. He’s cultivated an amazing career and following. I’m honored to have been given permission to influence his life—however trivial I believe that may have been. All credit to the actions of John—not my pontification.

In this episode we dive into many topics from who John is, his journeys through Europe, his climb through the ranks of Air Force air traffic control, and our different circumstances while stationed in South Georgia. I get a little too honest in this episode. I reveal more than I probably should. It’s a good time, regardless. Two old friends catching up over an evening of beers!

I know you’ll all enjoy.

Everyone please welcome, John Tisue!!
